To blog or not to blog?

Perhaps the question should be what do I blog about?

I’m a wife, a mum of four, a hairdresser and a writer – not necessarily in that order. Surely I should be able to come up with something. Anything?

I could blog about the trials of motherhood or my disasters in the kitchen – my family would find it highly amusing to share a few of those, I’m sure. Or I could blog about my irrational fear of snails and slugs – there must be an ‘ophobia’ for that, although I don’t know if there is – if someone knows different…?

But I guess what I want to write about most of all is… well, writing.

I’ve been making up stories in my head for as long as I can remember but it wasn’t until four years ago that I decided to write them down. I had one particular story that wouldn’t go away, so one day I flew down the stairs and announced to my family, ‘I’m going to write a book!’.

And what a total load crap it was!

I knew nothing about the art of writing but I set myself a mission to learn everything I possibly could, because if didn’t write my story the darn thing would never shut up! I read, I researched, I joined online writing groups, I tore my hair out at times, but suffice to say I got the writing bug – those who know me might say it became an obsession – but so, so worth it. Last month I got the email that every aspiring writer dreams of, ‘We’d like to offer you a publishing contract’.

OMG, I DID IT!!!

  1. Lovely first blog, Abbey – oh and how I can relate to everything you wrote – particularly the writing stories in your head but never occurring to you to write them down. And, I’m still struggling with the whole ‘what to blog about’ and social media etc. It’s worth it though and, as you’ve no doubt found out, the RNA and Tirgearr communities are fabulously supportive. This blog is a great start – really well done – I look forward to following your journey.
